RRHS Visits Clara White Mission

In an ongoing effort to build partnerships, In December (2020), River Region's executive team visited the Clara White Mission to discuss possible partnerships and referral processes. CEO Dowdy and the CEO of Clara White, Council Member Ju'Coby Pittman had a fruitful conversation on the two agencies working together.

RRHS Visits River Point Behavioral Health

In an ongoing effort to build partnerships and a wholistic continuum of care, In December (2020), River Region's communication department sponsored lunch at River Point Behavioral Health to discuss our services and the referral process. Earlier in the year River Point provided lunch for our residential clients as well as breakfast for our Carmichael staff to discuss their services.

RRHS Prepares Thanksgiving Baskets For Clients

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, On November 24, 2020 River Region prepared over 45 Thanksgiving baskets and bags for clients. Pictured are RRHS' Executive, Communication, Outreach, and Registration team preparing the baskets and bags. CEO Dowdy pulled names to inform lucky clients that their name was drawn to receive a basket.

CEO Dowdy Speaks Before the Duval Delegation

On November 23, 2020 RRHS CEO Jacqueline Dowdy spoke before the Duval Delegation on River Region's services and asked for their support during the upcoming legislative session. Present were Senators Aaron Bean and Audrey Gibson and State Representatives Cord Byrd, Clay Yarborough, Tracie Davis, Angie Nixon, Wyman Duggan, and Jason Fischer.

RRHS Employee Selected as NFL Fan of the Year!

In November, Danika Mitchell discovered she was selected as the NFL Fan of the Year for the Jacksonville Jaguars. For the first time ever, the NFL launched the Fan of the Year contest to shine a light on extraordinary fans who have been a rallying force of their family, friends and/or community and inspire others through their love of football. WellCare Provides Free COVID-19 Tests

Beginning in November, WellCare Health Plans will provide free COVID-19 testing to River Region Staff and Clients every Monday from 5 AM - 12 PM in the Carmichael Clinic. Email Dr. Davis at adavis@rrhs.org for more information.

RRHS Participates in Community Food Drive

On November 17, 2020 RRHS participated in State Representative Kim Daniel's Holiday Drive-Thru Food Giveaway. The event took place at the Johnson Branch YMCA. Cars were parked around the corner for over a mile to receive donated food.

RRHS Carmichael Beautification

When someone first arrives at RRHS, one of the first things they see is the parking lot. First impressions matter a lot. When someone pulls into A parking lot, they immediately, if not subconsciously, begin assessing the functionality and aesthetic appeal of a business, beginning with your parking lot. As part of our beautification efforts, RRHS facilities department had the client parking lot redone and re-stripped.

RRHS Celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month With Free Breast Exams for Clients and Staff

As many know, former CEO Derya Williams, whom our residential location is named after, passed away from breast cancer in 2011. Thus, October holds a special place in the hearts of River Region staff. There were a series of events including a day of breast cancer screenings conducted by our very own Dr. Monica Johnson celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Clients and staff who participated also received free gifts.

CEO Dowdy's Monthly Radio Spot

On the third Friday of every month beginning in October, CEO Dowdy will be a guest speaker on The Victory Station WCGL AM 1360/FM 94.7 at 1:15 p.m. to discuss services offered by River Region as well as other substance use and mental health disorder topics. Click the picture to listen in 24/7.

RRHS Celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month

As many know, former CEO Derya Williams, whom our residential location is named after, passed away from breast cancer in 2011. Thus, October holds a special place in the hearts of River Region staff. There will be a series of events including customer appreciation days, "Pink Wednesdays" for staff, and other awareness activities including a day of breast cancer screenings conducted by our very own Dr. Monica Johnson celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

RRHS Participates in The Crown's event

On October 17, 2020 River Region participated in The Crown's event at the Jacksonville Hyatt. We had the opportunity to share and discuss services offered by River Region as well as other substance use and mental health disorder topics to convention attendees.

Matrix House Social Distance Graduation

On September 30, 2020, River Region's Matrix House program conducted a "Drive-Thru" graduation ceremony for all of the individuals that completed the program. Clients were welcomed by program staff and given their graduation certificate as well as a bag of special gifts.

RRHS Participates in Celebrate Arlington's 5K Event

On September 26, 2020, River Region sponsored and participated in Arlington 20|20's first ever Celebrate Arlington's 5K run/walk. City officials including Council Member Joyce Morgan and At-Large member Salem were present.

On September 27, 2020, River Region sponsored and participated in Arlington 20|20's first ever Celebrate Arlington's Drive-Thru Picnic. There were performances by local artist, trivia, and food.

RRHS Participates in R.U.T.H.H. Suicide & Mental Health Awareness Walk

On September 26, 2020, River Region participated in the Rebuilding Unity Through Healing Hearts Inc. (R.U.T.H.H.) Mental Health Awareness Walk. RRHS' Constance Baker had an opportunity so speak about RRHS services to participants.

RRHS Holds Its Annual Board Meeting

With social distancing in mind, on September 18, 2020, River Region held its annual board meeting. ut RRHS services at Jacksonville’s premier conference and event venue the Schultz Center.

RRHS Sharpens Skills During Lunch-N-Learn

On June 11, 2020, River Region medical and administration participated in training with Alkermes on the benefits of fighting opioid dependence with non-addictive once-monthly treatment and counseling using Vivitrol (Naltrexone).

RRHS Hosts an Online Symposium

On July 13, 2020, River Region facilitated an online symposium on substance use, mental health, stigma, and disparities in communities of color. The symposium had over 80 people registered. A recording will be made available soon.

RRHS PARTNERS To Provide Free Lunch to Justina Community Youth

On July 8, 2020 River Region, in partnership with the City of Jacksonville and Arlington 20|20, began providing free lunches for youth ages 5-18 and disabled adults. Lunch will be served from 11:30 am - 1:00 at RRHS's Justina Location.

RRHS Re-Accredited By The Commission on

On July 1, 2020, The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) notified RRHS of its re-accreditation. CARF's mission is to provide accreditation standards and surveyors for organizations working in the human-services field worldwide with a base in traditional facilities and institutional settings. Attaining and maintaining CARF-accredited status requires a significat effort, strong teamwork, and a commitment at all levels of an organization to provide quality services and enhancing the lives of the people served. RRHS Staff Partners with Job Corps for Red Ribbon Week

For Red Ribbon Week, RRHS partnered with Job Corps. Staff members Cardesha Burton and Patrina Famurewa were the guest speakers for an event on the Job Corps campus to discuss toxic relationships, employability, and other topics.

In continuing with our community outreach, the RRHS executive team met with JSO Sheriff Mike Williams and his team to discuss RRHS' services to and how we can further expand our service to Duval County.

CEO Dowdy Speaks before Clay Delegation

On October 10th, CEO Dowdy spoke before the Clay County Delegation on RRHS services. Delegation members included State Representatives Bobby Payne &Travis Cummings, and State Senator Rob Bradley (R-Fleming Island). The delegation hearing is intended to afford local officials an opportunity to request legislation or state funding and express opinions on issues to be considered by the state legislature during the 2019-2020 Regular Session.

RRHS Launches "Beyond" with Clients

In keeping with our vision of being the "provider of choice" RRHS launched our initial "beyond" event at the Carmichael campus offering multiple free services to our clients including wealth management, record expungment, and rights restoration to name a few.

RRHS Hosts Fall Community Event

The prevention team hosted a community fair with free food and games for the local community. Special guest Council Member Joyce Morgan stopped by to participate along with Board Chair Kay Fullwood.

RRHS Participates in Food distribution with other Community Leaders

In the spirit of giving, several RRHS staff participated in Farm Share with Rep. Kim Daniels, Council Member Ju’Coby Pittman and other community leaders last quarter.
