River Region’s Prevention Department Helps Young People to Develop Healthy Lifestyles.
Project MALE (Men Advocating and Leading by Example): Project MALE was designed to enhance parenting skills for fathers who care about their children. Following last year’s conference, Project MALE has been presenting ongoing free classes.
Strengthening Families:Strengthening Families is a program to help youth ages ten through fourteen and parents with their communications skills.
ENABL (Education Now and Babies Later): ENABL is an abstinence-based program that teaches youth, ages 9 through 14, about the risks of early sexual involvement and the consequences of early pregnancy. ENABL encourages responsible decision making by teens.
Kid Power: Kid Power is a program to help elementary school students whose reading and math scores are below grade level to come up to or above grade level.
Project DAVE (Drug, Alcohol, and Violence Elimination): Project DAVE works to prevent drug and alcohol abuse by teaching family skills to youths and their parents. There are 14 weekly sessions.
Training of Teens: Training of Teens is a program for identifying substance abuse and mental health issues and providing intervention where needed. The program is designed to identify and eliminate risk factors and improve protective factors.
The Youth Explosion: The Youth Explosion isan annual risk reduction intervention conference where young people ages nine through eighteen learn about healthy lifestyles during a 24-hour lock in. Participants are recruited by local churches, which also provide volunteers for this event.
