World AIDS Week 2014
2014 Theme: “Focus, Partner, Achieve: An AIDS-free Generation.”
World AIDS Day is held each year on December 1st, and it provides an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV by demonstrating their support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died. World AIDS Day was the first-ever global health day with the first being held in 1988.
River Region is joining in the celebration of World AIDS Week by offering free HIV testing at the following locations:
FSCJ Kent Campus - 12/2, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
FSCJ South Campus - 12/3, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
FSCJ Downtown Campus - 12/4, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Jersey College (Baymeadows) - 12/4, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On December 1st, join River Region as we wear red in honor of world AIDS Day. Post a picture of yourself on your social media accounts wearing red and use the hashtag #GetTestedJax #WAD14 to show your support for those that are currently living with HIV, and to honor those that have died.

The Matrix House will continue to provide services for another year, despite city budget cuts. This followed on the heels of the 2014 commencement ceremony which had one of the largest graduating classes to date. Both of these events are a testament to the powerful impact this program has on changing lives in this city.
Additionally, River Region has received a substantial grant from SAMHSA to begin a new program, INTAC, through the Federal Minority Aids Initiative, to provide fully integrated HIV, behavioral health and medical services for low-income, black adults at high risk for or living with HIV/AIDS, substance abuse and mental health disorders.
River Region has also been awarded a new contract with the U.S. Courts Federal Probation system to provide outpatient services. This is a great achievement as this contract is only awarded to those who can meet the high standards of the court system.
Lastly, we were awarded a new Adult Drug Court grant for three years to continue providing substance abuse treatment to those charged with a felony, in lieu of prosecution or incarceration.
These are all tremendous accomplishments, especially in a time when funding opportunities have been decreasing.
