Strengthening Families

The Strengthening Families Program for Youth 10 to 14 is one of the most powerful family change programs in the country because it involves the whole family, not just the parents or the children alone. The SFP is unique among parenting and family programs because it was developed specifically for children of alcohol and drug-abusing parents. The SFP has been designed to:

1. Decrease alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, intentions to use, and other ultimate youth behavior problems.

2. Decrease risk factors and improve protective factors in the participating children by improving family relation and the parent’s parenting skills.

3. Increase knowledge of appropriate child rearing, supervision, relationship skills, and developmental expectancies.

Program Description:The Strengthening Families Program is presented in 14 consecutive weekly sessions with each session lasting approximately two hours.
